Deepavali Day School Alumni Annual General Meeting - Disrespectful?

Annual General Meeting(AGM) of Alumni Society of a school with students who are multi-religious on Deepavali Day is so un-Malaysian. Sadly, it happened in Temerloh.

What if the AGM was held on Hari Raya? Wesak Day? Chinese New Year? Christmas? - Such religious festivals must be respected - no multiracial organization, society or company should be holding General Meetings or AGMs on such dates.

It may be OK for an alumni to have an AGM if the alumni does not have any Hindu members - but still, we are Malaysians, and on this day we should be celebrating with our Hindu friends.

RESPECT demands that there should not be AGMs or General Meetings on such religious days.

During most of these religious festivals, there are a lot of things that people do including prayers and religious ceremonies, visitation of relatives and friends, and welcoming friends to their homes..

WOULD YOU WANT SUCH A GENERAL MEETING ON THE DAY OF YOUR OWN RELIGIOUS HOLY DAY OR CELEBRATION? IF YES, SIMILAR RESPECT EXPECTED WHEN OTHERS IN OUR MALAYSIAN COMMUNITY ARE CELEBRATING THEIR RELIGIOUS FESTIVAL...

WONDER WHETHER SOME UMNO-BN 'PEOPLES' REPRESENTATIVE' ALSO OFFICIATED SUCH AN EVENT - HIS DUTY WOULD HAVE BEEN TO ADVISE THAT SUCH AN ACTIVITY IS UN-MALAYSIAN.

But, then everyone are free to do what they feel as right. For me, I would generally 'boycott' such events..What about you?

It may be different if there was some 'emergency' that required such meetings to be held on such days, I suppose.
